The Dewsbury Association were delighted when a cohort of Yorkshire CFers attended their annual Association Dinner. The Dinner took place at Dewsbury and District Golf Club which proved a beautiful setting for a lovely evening.

The CFers were there to support Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell, a loyal supporter of CF, who has just recently deservedly been confirmed to stand for re-election as candidate for Dewsbury in 2015.

A delicious 3 course meal with plenty of wine flowing was followed by speeches by Dewsbury Association Chairman Alan Burton, MP Simon Reevell, Honorary President of the Mirfield Conservatives Keith Sibbald and the special guest Sir Roger Gale, MP for Thanet who spoke a little about his experiences serving in Parliament with Lady Thatcher. He also congratulated CF for the work that they do and wished them luck for the future.

Speeches were followed by an auction and a raffle at which some CFers were lucky enough to win a prize before musical entertainment rounded off the evening.

The evening was a massive success with lots of money raised for the Association to go into the fighting fund for Simon’s re-election battle and the local election candidates.

CFers have been asked to keep the 13th July free in their diary to come and support the next big Dewsbury Event which will be a Race Night, more details will follow in due course.

YHCF Tribute to Baroness Thatcher

603691_10200518255990798_1737650103_n

Monday 8th April proved to be an unexpectedly sad day for our country as we learned of the passing of one of our greatest Prime Ministers, Margaret Thatcher. Thatcher’s legacy has had an effect on Britain unlike any other; thanks to her we were able to once again feel pride in our country and take our place on the world stage. As well as giving us back our weight internationally she reformed the country inside it and modernised the UK in all possible ways and bringing Britain back to its feet. She restored other peoples’ faith in us and our own faith in ourselves. As Andrew Marr put it  she truly was a ‘one-woman revolution’

In tribute to this wonderful woman Yorkshire CF arranged for a floral tribute to be laid in memory of her in the form of a wreath of white roses, the symbol of Yorkshire. Many of CF from all over the country, as well as from Yorkshire, travelled to London on Wednesday 17th April to be at her funeral and cheer her coffin as it made its final journey from Westminster to St Paul’s. The atmosphere was beyond words and just showed how many lives she touched for the better throughout her reign, it was a fitting send off. She was truly a great loss but even though she is gone her legacy will live on.

Yorkshire CF’s thoughts and condolences remain with her family.

Introducing Morley and Outwood PPC Andrea Jenkyns

Andrea Jenkyns has recently been selected as PPC for the Morley and Outwood seat ready for the 2015 General Election. As you will already be aware this is the seat that is currently occupied by the Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls and so it will be a massive fight to get him out but it is a fight we are more than ready for.

The campaign is already beginning and Yorkshire CF have been invited to help Andrea at a campaign day on the 18th May. We will be meeting at 10:30 am in Morrisons Car Park (Windsor Court, Morley, LS27 9BG) which is about a ten minute walk from Morley train station. It will be a great opportunity for people to meet Andrea who is already very busy in the area and proving worthy of her selection and is deserving of our support. The campaign day will be followed, as is tradition, with a trip to the pub.

The official campaign launch event will take place a week later on Saturday 25th May meeting at 7pm (for 730pm) at Howley Hall Golf Club in Morley (LS27 ONX). For just £12.50 you will be provided with a two Course meal (Carvery & Dessert, Vegetarian Option Available) and get to hear the guest speaker who is set to be Olympic Rower, Alex Story.

To book a place on the Campaign Launch meal or for further details on the campaign day please contact Andrea on 07846 320330 or andreajenkyns@btinternet.com. If anyone does not know the area well and would like to be met at Morley Train Station and directed to Morrisons please contact our Press and Media Officer Beth Prescott on pressypianist@live.co.uk

We hope to see you all at both these events to help get Andrea’s campaign off to a great start!

Young activists rally to support York Conservatives

Campaigning in York

Activists supporting York Conservatives

On Saturday the 4th of May CF members and members of the (University of) York Tories rallied to the support of York Conservatives who were leafletting in the Micklegate Ward of York Central. York Conservative Association is perhaps unique in the fact that its Chairman and two Deputy Chairmen are all under the age of 30.

Following a successful morning’s leafletting, hastened by the number of people involved, our intrepid leafleteers retired to the Seahorse Hotel for some well deserved refreshments, where the York Tories were beginning their infamous Hagueathon.
